TRICK SCHOOL

From stance to ollie, from bunny hop to tailwhip. Every trick frame by frame: pause it, rewind it, watch it in slow-mo. Then go try it.

FALLING IS PART OF IT.

Everyone landed a first ollie at some point. Most of them hit the ground first. Here you see each trick in pieces: where your feet go, where your weight goes, what the board does in the air.

Order matters. Start with stance and pushing, learn to turn with a kickturn, then it's pop time. No rush; the street isn't going anywhere.

LEARN THIS FIRST

Every street trick is built on the ollie. Play it, pause it, step through the frames. Blue shoe is your front foot, orange is your back foot.

SKATEBOARD TRICKS

Go in order: each trick builds on the one before.

  1. Level: BEGINNER

    STANCE

Before you roll, figure out which foot goes in front. Regular, goofy, and the mongo thing. No wrong answer, just yours.

  2. Level: BEGINNER

    PUSHING

Boards don't roll themselves. Front foot on the bolts, back foot on the ground: push, step on, cruise. Everything starts here.

  3. Level: INTERMEDIATE

    OLLIE

The mother of all street tricks. Snap the tail, slide your front foot and the board jumps with you. No hands, pure pop.

  4. Level: BEGINNER

    KICKTURN

Lift the nose and pivot on your back wheels. The cleanest way to turn around on a ramp or swing a tight corner on the street.

  5. Level: INTERMEDIATE

    MANUAL

Rolling on your back wheels with the nose up. Looks easy, takes a while to find the sweet spot.

  6. Level: INTERMEDIATE

    SHOVE-IT

Spin the board 180° under your feet and land back on it. You can learn it even before the ollie, and it looks the part.

SAFETY

HELMET FIRST, TRICKS SECOND.

Helmet, always. When you start a new trick, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards help a lot too. Try the ollie and shove-it on a board that isn't rolling, on grass or carpet. No tricks in crowds, in traffic or on wet ground.
